Sharon M. Grosfeld has been working with Paula Peters since 1989. She received her law degree from Antioch School of Law, and prior to that, received her Master’s Degree in Sociology from New York University.  Sharon has litigated highly complex divorce and custody cases, in addition to handling appellate cases.

Tireless Family Law and Civil Rights Advocate

In addition to being an attorney, Sharon served in the Maryland General Assembly for 12 years from 1995 through 2006. She was first elected to the House of Delegates representing District 18 in Montgomery County in 1994 and was a member of the House Judiciary Committee until 2002, when she was elected to the state Senate. There, she served on the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. Sharon was a highly respected member of the General Assembly, and continues to be known as a tireless family law and civil rights advocate.

Sharon’s work both as a family lawyer and legislator has earned her numerous awards, including the prestigious Beverly Groner Award from the Maryland State Bar Association’s Family and Juvenile Law Section Council.  During her 12 years in political office she successfully sponsored many pieces of legislation that modernized the area of domestic relations.  In addition, she has received recognition for her commitment and service to the LGBT community, particularly with regard to her sponsorship back in the mid-Nineties of legislation that would have legalized same-sex marriage.

Sharon is well respected by both her family law peers as well as judges.  Indeed, Super Lawyers Magazine has named her a “Super Lawyer” in 2013.  In addition to her work as a family lawyer, Sharon is a former adjunct professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management where she teaches courses on “Political Leadership,” “Leadership in Public Office” and “Women & Political Leadership.”
